The Abylkhan Kasteyev State Museum of Arts of the Republic of Kazakhstan will host the opening of the manga exhibition from the series «The Bride’s Story», immersing in the fascinating world created by the famous modern Japanese artist Kaoru Mori.

On May 18, 2024, at 16:00, as part of the International Museum Day, the Abylkhan Kasteyev State Museum of Arts of the Republic of Kazakhstan will host the opening of the manga exhibition from the series «The Bride’s Story», immersing in the fascinating world created by the famous modern Japanese artist Kaoru Mori.

The exhibition presents the 14th volume of the manga series, consisting of 207 sheets of carefully executed illustrations. They describe fascinating and intricate storylines, expressive characters reflecting the vibrant and distinctive culture and lifestyle of Central Asia. The manga takes place in the middle of the 19th century and tells about the life of nomads, focusing special attention on the image of the bride.

«The Bride's Story» series began publishing in 2008 in the manga magazine Aokishi (Kadokawa), and has been widely recognized to date. 14 volumes have been published in total and translated into several languages. The series has received many domestic and international awards, including the main prize at the 2014 Manga Awards ceremony. In 2022, as part of the «commemorative project dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and the five Central Asian countries», «The Bride's Story» was exhibited at the Kyoto International Manga Museum.

The exhibition of illustrations introduces the culture and traditions, family relations and the rich heritage of 19th century Central Asia through the exquisite works of manga by Kaoru Mori. The author invites visitors to plunge into the history of the nomads of the XIX century, which develops against the background of an impending external invasion, when nomadic clans and townspeople unite to protect their lands. Kaoru Mori's meticulous craftsmanship reinterprets the life, landscapes and architecture of Central Asia, offering a touching and fascinating account of the life of the nomads living in steppe. This series continues to fascinate readers all over the world.

The manga exhibition from the series «The Bride's Story» was organized with the assistance and approval of the Kadokawa Corporation and the Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Kazakhstan. Abylkhan Kasteyev State Museum of Arts of the Republic of Kazakhstan is presenting manga to the Kazakhstani audience for the first time.
